Young dog that needs a new home

Howdy is a strong, beautiful 1.5 year old Great Pyrenees. He's truly a great dog, very good with small children, cats and other dogs. The issue is that he will not be contained. Shock collars, electric or traditional fences don't faze him. He always comes home for morning and evening meals. I thought my 10 acres would be sufficient but a nearby outfitter has reported he's interfering with client hunts. All of my neighbors have major problems with wild pigs rooting their land, I don't have any issues with pigs, other predators, or armadillos with Howdy on night patrol. Just an excellent dog who's too friendly. Howdy is intact because it's recommended to hold off with large breeds until full maturity at 2 years (he's already over 100 lbs) Howdy needs a large ranch to protect preferably with other dogs. This is from a friend of mine and former student Jennifer that lives out in Grimes County. Looks like he just needs some more room to roam.

Dang. She got really bad information. He should have been neutered at 4-6 months. No later. Have him cut NOW. He will be more marketable. The down side is that he's developed bad habits and roaming and likely breeding. Very irresponsible for pet owners to not cut these dogs at 4-6 months.

Thats neither here nor there now but get it done asap. if she wants to keep him, a trip to the vet for a neuter and a trip to Home Depot for good fencing will allow her to likely keep her pup.

Good luck with the rehome if she goes that route.

Youre the one with bad info. Neutering large breeds later is done for their own health.

I rely on 25 years of working with hundreds or thousands of dogs annually, tons of vets with more experience and education than you or I, and, rescues across the country. Appreciate the input.

If the dog is to be rehomed, he needs to be cut yesterday and if he is sent to a rescue he will be. And if they'd done that, this probably wouldn't be an issue to need resolution. Really doing the dog a disservice otherwise. The guy is trying to rehome the dog, and I've been reining dogs with my wife for years, I'm telling you what to do to maximize your chances of making it happen.
