How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know I know this has been discussed b4.

I have line of site internet service with Nexlink. I know I know but this was b4 Starlink.

I need something that can extend at least 1/2 mile.

Any suggestions?

TIA

For clarification - you want to bridge a half a mile with point to point, or you want a wifi area with half mile radius?

If the first, do you have visual over that distance? I use Ubiquiti NanoBeam Point to Point bridge to do this in my barn. I have a network in my home, then with using the point to point I connect the barn in. I do have a second network set up in the barn with its own SSID.

Whatever you want to do - the answer is in here: https://store.ui.com/us/en

I will admit, it sometimes takes some familiarization because they don't sell big-box "Here's the kit you need" solutions and it might not be cheap... but Ubiquiti has it.

Love my Ubiquiti hardware. It wasn't cheap to switch over but it's been worth it.

I also have Ubiquiti. Setup was a pita. Seemed like I had to stop 2-3 times because I needed to buy one more part from them. And, not a ten dollar part, more like $200-$250. So, whatever your budget with UI, add a couple hundred, just cause.
Their cameras are awesome.

I would like a 1/2" radius if possible.

1/2 mile radius is going to be difficult if not impossible unless you're doing multiple access points.

I do not think you can do a 1/2 mile radius without setting up a mesh style system with multiple access points.

If you are in college station you can stop by and get some help. I would look at the company 'ISP Supplies'. They do commercial setups. A 0.5 mi radius is huge, just over 3/4 of a square mile of coverage.

You will want to talk with someone who has a little experience and will ask you the right questions to identify any issues. Some things you might think are a big deal. Maybe nothing and also some things you think are nothing could be a big deal.

They ship from College Station so if it's in stock and your near the big metros, You will get your stuff overnight. If you're in College Station they have a will call pickup and you can order it and drive over and grab it.

If not ISP Supplies, look for a commercial vendor not a home unit retail outlet.

I'm really curious what the driving use case is for such a large wifi coverage?

Obviously he wants to be on TexAgs while he mows his 7 acre ranchette in BFE.

I might try and get creative with some fiber optic lines in that situation if you just want to put in a new hotspot 1/2 mile from your base.

But honestly if you're using a WISP , any range extension will likely prove frustrating. My advice would be to just add a second drop half a mile away. That's going to be the most elegant and least frustrating for the end user, though not the cheapest.

One solution might be switch to Starlink then take their free Starlink Mini kit and put it up at the remote location. If you have to drive around in a tractor or something, the Mini can be mobile, too.

AT&T sucks when you live in BFE. I need my YouTube entertainment while driving my 12 hp JD.

That I would understand. But a half mile radius covers ~500 acres. That's most of your section, if you've only got one of those little square sections rather than the proper mile by mile and a half setups.

As suggested above, switch to Starlink and get the mini kit mounted to your mower.

I have no real advice but I spent the weekend at my in-laws who also have Nextlink and I was ready to buy them Starlink before the long weekend was over with.

Curious… what was the problem with Nexlink?

Sounds like a couple Starlink Minis mounted to the top of your vehicles or equipment would be the cheapest and fastest options.

Mesh in an area that size will bankrupt most people.

Attempted to watch the baseball game Friday night on YouTube TV and it kept buffering off and on. WiFi from my phone was hit or miss most of the weekend inside their home. Sunday night was more of the same when streaming YouTube TV and WiFi on my phone. Didn't need to use my phone and also didn't watch much of anything Saturday.

Overall, just a bad experience so I finally asked my FIL who they used and he said Nextlink which I had never heard of. They are in between Weatherford and Abilene so there may not be many options.

That's what I thought. I was paying for 50 mbps and had buffering. I called to complain and they switched me to another tower. I checked my speed and they bumped it up to 200 mbps. I've had no problems dice then.

I guess Starlink is cutting into their business so they increased my speed only after I complained.

Second this. We installed these at our businesses and at 3 residences in our family. I'm the family IT and I can access and manage easily with an app. We have mostly used just the APs and gateways, but I'm about to install a point to point at the ranch for the new building, and have been looking into another one near some of the stands to get cameras out there.

It is pro level gear, and if you're even somewhat technically inclined it's very easy to setup and use.

Nothing will reach that radius because its not that equipment thats the problem, its your phone or other device that cannot send a return signal even if it received a broadcast. Starlink unit on your vehicle hooked up to a portable battery like a jackery (or any number of competing brands) or a dc > ac inverter hooked into your battery directly for power.

We have a bridge to go about 200 yards to our barndo from mom's house … these bridges work pretty good, we can run 4-6 tvs off of the starlink that is then bridged down to the bardo… to set up a point to point bridge with starlink we had to purchase a point to point bridge plus 2 cheap routers because star link didn't have extra ports for the bridge. We also have a 2nd network setup at the barndo with its own identity. My nephew is a computer wizard, he set it all up and it works great … cost $350-$500 but it's worth it only having 1 internet service and barndo is not used all the time

This is why I said if possible. My goal is to set up some sort of a Lazer gun I can control from the back porch while drinking coffee.

If it can't be solved without a propane cannon or tannerite, it can't be solved.
