Had a buddy from Dawson County invite me up to shoot some quail before the game today. Had a great morning even though I don't have any bird dogs left, was still fun getting out in the field. I shot 14 quail out of 14 coveys with 16 shots. 13 blues and a bob. My buddy shot 7 blues also.

Got to his house to clean birds, had them all cleaned and in a beer box, walked off to grab a water hose and rinse birds off before going in bags, was maybe gone 30 seconds, came back to 6 quail breast left and one happy blue heeler. Is it okay to skin your hunting hosts dog alive?

Damn.

Fun hunt though. But ya I'd be pissed…

Yeah I'm pretty salty about it, but can't complain too much about a free quail hunt and seeing a buddy I haven't seen in a few years. He thinks it's hilarious because he ended up with one more bird than I did even though I doubled him up. I told him I hoped his dog had a quail bone stuck in his throat, I was kinda kidding.

Nice. Just spent three days hunting them near Big Bend. They're like trout, they live in beautiful places.

There are bird dogs and then there are bird eating dogs.

Damn dog was watching you the whole time just scheming. Ugh.
