Water did not come near camper cabins at Honey Creek. We did have 5 staff house that suffered damage from the water and lost all of our waterfront, including our wooden canoes from the 1930's, and 56,000 rounds of ammunition that was in storage for our rifle range. As a former Arrowhead/Honey Creek camper and counselor and current staff member, I've never seen the Guad rage the way she did that morning. I hate that the world met our precious Hunt, TX on her worst day. But I also witnessed incredible acts of kindness and service in the days that followed. We had campers on site, but sent them home on the third day of no power or water. I'm still humbled by the kindness shown during those dark days. We were able to bring our high school girls back two weeks later for the last two weeks of camp. Our girls needed that time to together to process and heal. Camp is good and magical. My heart hurts for the 27 families, the Eastlands, and all the Mystic girls, past and present. I knew 12 faces that were lost that morning and many more who had close calls. And for anyone who questions the meaning of camp, the people who have rallied around me the most were my cabin mates The girls I spent those magical summers with are still some of my best friends.

I've only ever been a reader here, but today I felt compelled to share something, quietly and with care.

I don't presume to be part of this family in the way most of you are. As my TexAgs username suggests, I didn't attend Texas A&M - but I hold it, and the people who've walked its halls, very close to my heart.

Since that fateful morning of July 4th, I've followed this thread closely. Like many of you, I sat vigil, refreshing the pages constantly for updates. I wept, and I prayed when there was nothing else to do. This tight-knit community carried the weight of all of it with strength, compassion and conviction. This thread stands as a testament to what it truly means to be a Texan and I don't say that lightly.

Today, five months later, I came across a blog that moved me deeply - one that honors the heart of this community and the light of one very special little girl.

The Annie Louise Foundation shared a powerful reflection on their trip to the Hill Country - the people they met, the families they helped, the stories they witnessed. And all of it, they say, was because of Mary Grace Baker. Without her, they may never have gone. May never have offered that help. Her life continues to shine in ways none of us can fully see.

For those still following this thread, still remembering, still holding space for all the families, I wanted to share this: https://www.annielouisefoundation.org/blog/annie-louise-foundation-hill-country-flood-relief-visit

Praying today, and every day, for dermdoc and the entire Baker family - that they continue to feel the love, protection, and presence of the God who holds us all.

God bless Mary Grace. God bless all the Heaven's 27 girls, their families and loved ones. And God bless this community for refusing to forget.

If you're so inclined, this is the week to pray your hardest for all of the families affected by the July 4 flood. The pain will be almost unbearable. Only the presence of the Holy Spirit will bring any relief.

Get on your knees.

Born and raised in Kerrville and went home for Christmas with my family this past weekend. Drove out to Mystic by myself when we had a break from family stuff. Was familiar with the area, went to Stewart as a kid, etc.

Just couldn't believe the level of devastation, and I know a lot has been cleaned up already. Then got out to Mystic. There is a really nice cross at the roadside. I forgot that you can see the entire camp area where everything happened from the road. It's right there in front of you. Had to stop and just stand by that cross for a while. All the buildings, cabins, etc are clearly visible. Just to sit there and think about what the flooding was like…it was very heavy and emotional.

it is cliche to say and i almost hate to say it all, but prayers to those of you on this thread who are dealing with this Christmas season.

You couldn't see it nearly as well before the flood... many many trees were raked from the banks of that river.

Why is it shocking. They've been sued. Any statements from them will be weaponized by the plaintiff's attorneys

Today is bittersweet.

On one hand, we can rejoice in the One whose birthday we celebrate today to bring us the opportunity to have an abundant life.

On the other hand, it is a day filled with only memories of those who have gone on before us from the present to eternity. There are lots of empty chairs today at the banquet table.

Lifting prayer for all of you today.

I have been praying extra hard for Clarke and Katie the last few weeks. Her instagram posts leave me unable to breathe at times. I can't even imagine the depth of their grief, but it can certainly be felt in her posts.

Get on your knees.

I'm sure a lot of us have been praying heartfelt prayers this week for all the families who've been having, in the words of the Mark Schultz song, "a different kind of Christmas this year." I know I've prayed many times that every family that lost a daughter and sister--and the girl who lost her entire immediate family--would feel God's peace in a real, deep, and tangible way during this season that just won't be the same.

As this year comes to a close, I'd like to share some words from a New Year's Eve hymn by John Newton. It's not his most well-known hymn (that, of course, would be Amazing Grace), but it seems particularly fitting for this year:

While with ceaseless course the sun
Hasted thru' the former year,
Many souls their race have run,
Never more to meet us here:
Fixed in an eternal state,
They have done with all below;
We a little longer wait,
But how little, none can know.

As the winged arrow flies
Speedily the mark to find,
As the ligh'tning from the skies
Darts and leaves no trace behind;
Swiftly thus our fleeting days
Bear us down life's rapid stream;
Upward, Lord, our spirits raise;
All below is but a dream.

Thanks for mercies past receive;
Pardon of our sins renew;
Teach us henceforth how to live,
With eternity in view.
Bless thy word to young and old,
Fill us with a Savior's love;
And when life's short tale is told,
May we dwell with thee above.

Today was the first day that we put our feet in the Guadalupe River since July 3rd. It was a beautiful day to end 2025. Us and our boys went exploring the banks of the river and it was very surreal.

I took a moment to get away and say a prayer for all of y'all that lost so much on that horrific day.

I hope that 2026 brings you and your families some level of peace and may God be with you.

You're welcome, Doc.

It definitely felt awkward feeling joy in a place that had so much heartache not very long ago. It will never be the same.

But, I noticed the rays in my wife's pictures and like to think it is all the little angles watching over us.
