My wife and I are getting more serious about a move home to Texas after almost 4 years as Texpats in Virginia. We had a chance to move back a year ago but the timing just didn't line up for both of our careers so we stayed put. I think we've decided that raising our family in God's country close to family is more important than the perfect career move.

My wife should be able to relocate with her company, but I'll be on the lookout for something new. I spent the early years of my career in O&G, ultimately leading my company's US sales and marketing team before pursuing an MBA and leaving the industry for a new career in the DC area. Without going into too much detail, I'm now leading an in-house consulting team in a government agency. I've had the opportunity to work a variety of projects in cyber, aviation, drone/counter drone, and have never really stopped considering myself a business developer and leader. I get to kill inefficiency, raise money, sell new ideas. redesign organizations, and negotiate with tough cookies every day. I've loved it but this role doesn't exist outside of DC.

As I dip my toe in, how does the job market feel in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, or DFW for BD, sales, or consulting type roles? My wife is considering an opportunity in Fort Worth now, but we have to decide whether to pursue it or not by Friday, obviously long before I'd have any concrete opportunities to consider. At this point I'm just trying to get a sense of what the opportunity flow is like back home from those of you lucky enough to still live there!

Obligatory Houston is full, try El Paso.

Real answer, sounds like with your current background on consulting for govt & drones you will wind up in Austin.

Also would try Raytheon, Lockheed and Bell Helicopter. In regards to job market i would say Texas is as strong if not stronger then just about anywhere.

Add L3Harris and SNC to your list of companies to look at in the DFW area.
