I'm looking for recommendations for tutoring in College Station. My kid is struggling with a history course and would like to get some help. Thanks in advance.
The thing that helped my boys the most with history was I would read or at least scan through the material they were studying and engage with them on it and ask questions I thought the teacher would emphasize on a test, typically stuff that looked like a tricky question or fact that could be overlooked. I'd typically engage with them a couple days before a test and then do a review the night before just looking at the material and trying to stump them. Worked great for learning but I think they also really appreciated me being engaged and knowing what they were trying to learn. I couldn't help them with Calculus or Chemistry (that stuff left my brain long ago) but I history is just about memorization and building interest in the topic. You don't have to know about the historical topic per se, you just need to look through the material and see what is being emphasized.
As an aside I had to take a lot of deep breaths as I saw a lot that is either misrepresented and where opinion is made into fact but that's just part of the game.
Otherwise Robb has excellent advice. Quizlets and working on memorization and fundamental study habits is the key to success in those subjects. My points are more about helping to motivate your kid to be engaged and it's also really fun when they do have success and you can share it with them.
