I doubt it is to help Cornyn.

Tillis is just tying to screw Trump as much as possible until he's gone.

The irony is that early in his career at the state level (20 years ago) he was in favor of strict voting standards/ID/less early voting days etc, quite effectively.

Once he got to the senate...he morphed into the swamp creature we today know him as. I vaguely recall he was strongly endorsed by Jeb and Mittens, so in retrospect more should have been able to see where he would go.

Why would he be furious? Because it's all a ball washing exercise. They are entrenched in their power with doing little to actually help people. This is 100% about keeping power for themselves. That's why Thune won't pass the Save America Act. Although if Cornyn and Massie lose, Thune might be rethinking his strategy to stay in power.

I suspect it will wind up getting passed in a lame duck session in November. No real point in arm twisting Collins right now in particular. If he can't get to 50 with Tillis, Cornyn and/or Cassidy won't go for it then (along with Murk), it will just have to wait.

I do wish Trump had gotten Barr to endorse voting for it before Trump approved of the Turtle's successor. That seemed like an unforced error.

He should put it to a vote and let the senators be accountable to voters. The fact is he doesn't want the votes to go on record.

There was a vote to add it to the reconciliation bill that did not need a filibuster.

It failed.


It's well established who the four senators from the Republican side are that are against it. There is no secret.
