FED SIGNALS RATE HIKES BACK ON THE TABLE

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said the Fed may raise rates again if inflation stays high amid rising energy prices tied to the Iran war.

Waller said rate cuts are no longer more likely than hikes and called for removing the Fed's "easing bias."

The Fed kept rates unchanged in April, but inflation concerns continue to grow.

They may want to wait a half hour until the new chairman is sworn in.

Trump's pick saying there's inflation makes me put more stock in that word than the previous guy.

I mean, assuming they both have the same definition of the word.

The bond market has been suggesting this for a while.

Yep, the bond market will keep the Fed honest.

If inflation is real and the Fed ignores it by not raising short-term rates to confront it, the bond market will become convinced the Fed isn't serious about inflation and will move mid to long-term rates up to compensate for inflation. That would increase interest payments on the national debt and a host of other bad things. That's why the bond market ultimately rules, not the Fed or its chairman.

FWIW, that's not Trump's replacement for Jerome Powell...

Cool.

So then inflation might not be a thing after all once Trump's guy gets in.

I made no judgement.

It just appeared that you thought that this was Powell's replacement.
