Tiffany Burress, an attorney and the wife of former NFL star Plaxico Burress, is a Republican candidate running for New York's 9th Congressional District in the 2026 midterm elections.

Official Launch: She officially launched her campaign on January 12, 2026, with a video and press release.
Target: She is challenging first-term Democratic incumbent Nellie Pou, who won the seat in 2024 following the death of longtime Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr.

Platform: Burress emphasizes her private-sector experience as a personal injury and workers' compensation attorney, contrasting it with Pou's long career in public office. Her campaign focuses on working families, cost-of-living concerns, and "accountable representation".

Primary Contest: She faces competition in the Republican primary from Clifton Councilwoman Rosemary Pino.
Political Support & Background

GOP Backing: Immediately following her launch, she received unanimous support from the Republican chairs of Passaic, Bergen, and Hudson counties.

District Competitiveness: While the 9th District has historically been a Democratic stronghold, Republicans view it as a "prime pick-up opportunity" because Donald Trump won the district in 2024.

Professional Life: A Pittsburgh native and former Penn State track star, she has practiced law in New Jersey for over 15 years and serves on the Workers' Comp committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association

Fairly crazy mix in those counties. Former Hudson resident. I was in a more blue collar town that was more right, but Jersey City has a lot of people wishing they could afford Manhattan.

Just to be clear, it really is NJ and not NY. The thread title has it correct. Article has it wrong.
