Saw that earlier but the thing is absolutely redacted to high heavens. My guess is that it gets, at best, a perfunctory investigation and shrugged off. There were some other press reports detailing a bit more from the prosecution about how the defense either misquoted or misrepresented some statements. I wouldn't be surprised to see it be completely true or completely false. No way to evaluate any of it based on the court filings.

Which I'm actually okay with at this time. Not because there weren't shennanigans or w/e, but because once you expose jurors during that process it could bring a lot of outside nonsense and that needs to not spill into the system. Yeah the SDNY is completely corrupt and nothing should be trusted there and both the judge and jury are or have some bad actors, but that's a VERY dangerous line to tread on imho.
My main concern is outside jury tampering. That does need to be punished and heavily discouraged.

Former governor Rod Blagojevich goes on JRE #2245 and makes the case that the lawfare we see today against Trump started with him. Says Obama's machine got'em. Same tactics employed against Trump with the sealed evidence, gag orders and so forth.

Wild story and worth a listen.

Yeah I never really understood that. Blago was just doing what every Dem pol in ILL does. Corruption is their calling card. Unless Obama was steamed he wasn't getting his cut?

Blago is a criminal. His trying to relevant by calling it "lawfare" is laughable!

It would be like the Alcee Hastings saying he sympathizes with Kavanaugh because they went after him too!

The juror or person who the defense says emailed them won't sign a statement and the defense itself said a hearing would be inappropriate. The defense also didn't provide the alleged emails. And the judge followed up by saying he's not putting more of the letter out there about jurors if there is zero ability to verify the claims in the letter about the jurors.

So I think the likely upshot is this is going nowhere and we've heard the end of it

Just milking every news cycle they can out of this.

Technically the claim of 34 felonies aren't convictions until Merchan finalizes the case. It's just an open ended case to date.
This is incorrect. Trump was convicted on May 30, 2024 when the jury verdict was entered onto the docket.

Trump has not been sentenced nor has judgment been entered, as that comprises the conviction and sentencing.
Quote:

New York Criminal Procedure Law - CPL 1.20:

...

12. "Verdict" means the announcement by a jury in the case of a jury trial, or by the court in the case of a non-jury trial, of its decision upon the defendant's guilt or innocence of the charges submitted to or considered by it.
13. "Conviction" means the entry of a plea of guilty to, or a verdict of guilty upon, an accusatory instrument other than a felony complaint, or to one or more counts of such instrument.
14. "Sentence" means the imposition and entry of sentence upon a conviction.
15. "Judgment." A judgment is comprised of a conviction and the sentence imposed thereon and is completed by imposition and entry of the sentence.

May want to rewatch your video. The guy says what his experience is in federal court and other state courts, but that he does not know if it is different in NY.

Looks like NY is different based on what TexAggie2011 posted.

Try again Sheriff.

I'm well aware of what was said in the video. I'm sure the person I was replying to is more than able to express his own opinion. But I was just adding other viewpoints to the discussion

Not sure what happened here, but Donald J. Trump is POTUS come 1-20-24, and thanks to MLK day, we get a day off to BBQ and celebrate it.

Maybe we should schedule a tee time that day instead of BBQ? Why not both?

Or maybe the pending EO that closes the border, for real?

If that is not BBQ worthy, I'm not sure what is.

The "other viewpoints" you posted didn't conflict with TexasAggie2011. The video guy admitted he didn't know the law in New York.

X-post from sentencing thread.

Trump filed for an appeal on immunity grounds. Wants to stay the sentencing.

Margot Cleveland is correct...on the law.

Merchan is a political judge. he doesn't know nor care enough about the law to even educate himself.

Merchan not only have SCOTUS a double middle finger but opened his raincoat to shake his (member) at them as well. And he will be dining out on that among the "cool people" in Manhattan for awhile. Just because he is very bad acting judge, who shoved it to Trump.

Horrible judge. Zero knowledge of evidentiary rules and I mean none. Worse on procedural rules.

He just wants a replica of Trump's scalp above his mantle. How sick is that? Trophy? As in serial killers keep trophies of their kills?

Bingo. He talks about Obama a lot during the interview. His sentence was egregious to say the least.

Trump's appeal of the verdict/sentence is still pending.

Trump has now appealed the federal court's original ruling that the case should have been removed to federal court before the trial. DOJ has also sent in an amicus on this as well.

Robert Gouveia has a video on this.

Incredible that was only a year ago. They must've truly thought they'd stopped him at that point.

Yep. Folks like Mary McCord and Andrew Weissman had a lot to say about this trial, and were just wrong. Note that now she is out talking about DoJ lawyers facing charges down the road for doing their jobs today.

Those two rank way up my personal wish-list of folks who should, themselves, face many charges.

Trump filing in appeals of this case.

PRELIMINARY STATEMENT

This is the most politically charged prosecution in our Nation's history. After years of fruitless investigation into decade-old, baseless allegations and under immense political pressure to criminally charge President Donald J. Trump for somethingNew York's district attorney (DANY) manufactured felony charges against a once-former and now-sitting President of the United States. The DA, a Democrat, brought those charges in the middle of a contentious Presidential election in which President Trump was the leading Republican candidate. These charges against President Trump were as unprecedented as their political context. Targeting alleged conduct that has never been found to violate any New York law, the DA concocted a purported felony by stacking time-barred misdemeanors under a convoluted legal theory, which the DA then improperly obscured until the charge conference. This case should never have seen the inside of a courtroom, let alone resulted in a conviction.

This Court should now reverse. Federal law expressly preempts DANY's misdemeanor-turned-felony charges because those charges rest on an alleged violation of federal campaign regulations that States cannot (and have never) enforced. The trial was fatally marred by the introduction of 2 official Presidential acts that the Supreme Court has made clear cannot be used as evidence against a President. The jury was instructed incorrectly, allowing a conviction without the unanimity required by both New York law and basic due process. Beyond these fatal flaws, the evidence was clearly insufficient to convict. In addition to all this overwhelming error, the trial was conducted by a judge who refused to recuse himself despite having made political contributions to President Trump's electoral opponents and despite having disqualifying family conflicts. For each of these independent reasons, President Trump's conviction must be set aside.
