A warm humid day in west Georgia/east Alabama. I wish good breakfast beverage to all.
Because a good day starts with good coffee.
Make it a good one in spite of what humankind and other species are up to.

That's awesome. I have usually managed to be in the upper 2/3 of my classes during my academic endeavors!

Haven't seen these temporary traffic signals before. They replace flagmen in a situation where the road is down to one lane due to construction and eastbound and westbound traffic take turns.

Pretty fancy.

Ut[ah]-exan - I have driven a fair amount over Northwest Georgia / Northeast Alabama and I have yet to see a house (shack) with a sign in the yard that it sells "P-Nuts + Hair doos". The only place I even saw anything about boiled peanuts was in a ditch in front of a gas station, but no one was there. Have boiled peanuts become too commercialized?

orbitalwelder - good luck turning that "Noon or sooner" into a nooner.

Cloudy and cool today. We topped out at 64F yesterday. I never opened my windows. Will be closer to 70F today. I *love* cool days in May because we're going to stop getting them right around June 1.

Today is the last day of Benny's junior year. He gets out at 12:05. I wish I could feel the complete freedom of finishing a school year and having an empty calendar. His calendar isn't *entirely* empty. He has to volunteer 50 hours this summer for Missouri's A+ program. In exchange for keeping up his grades and volunteering these hours, he will get two free years of community college. He doesn't seem excited by the idea of community college, but free is LOTS CHEAPER than spending those two years at Mizzou (where he wants to be).

For the record, I spent the summer of 1989 (summer before my senior year of HS) hanging out with friends, shooting pool, swimming, and drinking a lot of beer... always Miller Lite. Outside of his volunteer hours, I'll let Benny have his free time and be happy he isn't drinking like his dad did.

Have an appointment to see my knee surgeon on Monday. I was scoped eight days ago and haven't ever used crutches (except in the grocery store). I'm climbing my two flights of stairs 3 or 4 times a day. I feel like I'm doing well, but the swelling has been pretty bad. Ibuprofen hasn't really helped with that. The pain hasn't been bad though, and I'm sleeping a lot better at night than I was before the surgery. There's lots less pain at night.

Completely checked out of work, mentally, and ready for the weekend. I need a vacation.

Community College is where I met my wife.

Got a little story for you Ags:

I hadn't taken my education very seriously and was put on Sco Pro at A&M going into my Junior year. That fall I had the worst semester of school I've ever had (was later diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder) and was kicked out of school. The dean of the college was a real a-hole but I worked a deal where I could take 24 hrs outside of A&M and if I made a 4.0 they would readmit me (he later tried to reneg on the deal).

Anyways I was taking a creative writing class at my local Community College which happened to be taught my a romance author and that's where I met Julie. I thought she was so cool and way out of my league (she still is). I finally got the courage to ask her out on the last day of class and the rest is history.

I ended up getting a 3.9 after taking 24 hrs of classes, got back into A&M, and graduated with something like 217 credit hours total.

Community College isn't all bad.

I was raised on that stuff. My great aunt used to make her own blend because she felt it didn't have enough chicory so she would add more roasted chicory to it. She used to buy it from "a friend down the way". I don't know if she liked the taste or was just being frugal but that **** was potent.

To be fair, she was pretty Cajun and lived on a bayou outside Lafayette. Sometimes she and my grandma would slip into Cajun French when talking to me and it sound like they were having a stroke.

  • I slept in till 8am today and I'm still tired
  • I paid to have someone come out to clean my recycle and trash bins today. I've never had it done before but I am low key excited to see how the apparatus works. It's a big truck that picks up the bin, and drops it over a cone filled with nozzles to clean and deodorize it, all while cleaning and recycling the water.
  • I thought I was going crazy just now because I swore I could hear the soft dulcet tones of "My Heart Will Go On" coming from the floor vent. Turn out one of the neighbors kids across the street is outside practicing their trumpet. I went outside and they got embarrassed but I assured them they were doing very good and listened to them for a few minutes.
  • Have fun out there folks!

  • Slept decent.
  • Work from home day. Woohoo.
  • Sonic Route 44 Diet Coke.
  • Hopefully finish up one more annual review tomorrow.
  • Half day tomorrow.
  • Singo at Mas Fajitas was fun last night.
  • Travel work tonight. I wish the hotel would answer my questions so I can send out final docs for the destination wedding.
  • Few meetings today.
Do the day!

I don't know where boiled peanuts came from. When I was a very poor student teacher a quality lunch was a bottle of Coca Cola with Tom's Roasted Peanuts placed in the neck of the bottle for marinating and consumption. Nothing is quite as satisfying to this day as a cola or Dr Pepper with roasted peanuts for a snack.

Thank you. I thought I felt a little pressure on my bubble, but was not disturbed. If your drive takes you through Charlotte, stop at Mal Pan Taqueria or Good Food on Montford.

CC is great for the right people. Did a couple years at Blinn getting the reqs needed to transfer and the experience was good/great. The best class at Blinn was not as good as the best one I took at TAMU. The worst class I took at Blinn was LEAGUES better than the worst one I took at TAMU. Also, best prof I ever had was at Blinn. Hands down.

Oh, and it's insanely cheap comparatively speaking. Obviously. Pretty big consideration for some. Most, I'd even say.

I started out at Blinn too. It was like $1300 a semester instead of $4k at A&M. Some people used to say it was easier than A&M but I think that was mostly hype.

Way too many. But I don't drink coffee (well for the most part).

I would say on average I either drink two 16.5 oz bottles a day. If I go get one, I usually get 32oz or 44oz, which a lot of that is ice, so not really 44oz.

I would have a lot more $$ if I didn't have a diet coke and margarita habit.

I drink coffee, but I put two half and halfs in a 24oz cup. That's my only alteration. I don't make a dessert of it. Coffee isn't unhealthy at all.

For the record, I'm drinking a Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar as I write this.

Which is worse for you: smoking, drinking, meth, or Diet Coke?

Besides, Diet coke is 99% water (coke is only 90%). I think you will be just fine.
