They've been the Shockers since 1904; long before the modern term "Shocker." As mentioned earlier, they were originally the Wheat Shockers, and it was shortened not long after. As far as their hand sign being a match, I'm gonna guess "The Shocker" was modeled after them. And all this time, I'd thought it was Cougar High.
