Our tennis teams have earned it!

Any updates?

**Plan on periodically bumping this thread. It would be a great asset for the program and (potentially) the community.**

Shouldn't you be schmoozing with BMAs or CEOs something? You really think you can "bump" this facility into existence?

Basically nothing is going on with this currently. There is little to no revenue in the sport for an Athletic Department and we are talking about a sometimes practice facility and backup venue if weather is going to wipe out a match. When the coaches are out trying to raise $$$, it is for NIL funds to have the roster that they want. And that is what they are doing now.

The only way this gets built is if some individual donor says I'd like to build this and here is the money or if a local tennis academy / country club or government entity builds an indoor facility with A&M as a partner helping pay some of the rent / note in exchange for using it when needed.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but don't get your hopes up that something is going on.

And I love tennis. If anyone wants to start some kind of crowd sourcing here and we get commitments for a couple of million dollars that would likely get some attention.

Why? Seems like the coach and kids have what is needed to be National Champions! WHOOP!

why does every other SEC school have indoor facilities? Do they have more revenue? Better donors? It's a no to both. Something doesn't add up.

We built an indoor track and then ran up eight national championships. Then after a bit of a lull we tore it down and built a brand new indoor track then immediately won another natty.

Texas' indoor courts are about a 30 minute drive from campus. Their outdoor courts are right next to baseball and softball and across the highway from football, soccer, track, and basketball. Sort of like our setup with everything close to each other. But the indoor courts that bear the Texas school name are far away. It would literally be like building our indoor courts at a club in Navasota (same drive time). And the school tennis teams are certainly not the main tenants who pay for and use those indoor courts. The idea is that they pay for themselves with a membership to what is basically a pay to join country club with golf, tennis, swimming, and social activities.

That is the arrangement that I've been hoping to convince people would be feasible here. In the post-House (and NIL) era, that is about all that has a chance. The other option is someone just wants to donate one.

And that sorta was the deal with the city of bryan that fell apart. You have 2 cities and A&M that never seem to be able to come together or work together. And they're all to blame. That's why I laugh when some seem to think they all can come together to build a 300 million events/basketball arena.

Build the indoor courts !!!! There should be some type of go fund me type of thing and you donate and it has a certain amount of time, if it gets to a certain number like a mil your card gets charged. I am just curious how many people would donate if they actively tried to publicly make a plea

if you needed 20 million, you'd need 200K donors giving avg of $100 for example.

My guess is they won't waste their time on trying to raise money this way. That's why they have relied on large donations for facilities.

I get that', but figured they might try to get the ball rolling or at least gauge interest. See if they could even get 1 mil

In my opinion, we will see this happen sooner rather than later. Trev is a smart man and is using all of the facilities for additional revenue generation. (see Kyle Field -- Savannah Bananas, Upcoming soccer match, etc). He's an out the box thinker, but also practical/pragmatic. The same concept can drive new tennis and multi-use facilities. Tournaments, hosting events, etc. In terms of publicity, this has been a big win for the school on social media. Volleyball was the first big boost. I think we will see it happen with private donors and naming rights, etc...

This is a bit of a different scenario though because of the lack of land in Austin. Best case scenario might be some type of community based facility, but we have plenty of space to build something on campus.

This also speaks to the current state of college athletics. If we can't build new facilities for any non-rev sports might as well just shut them all down and only field a football and baseball team.

The point is that Texas has their name on a facility that someone else uses daily. The country club 30+ minutes away uses it daily and sells memberships for it to be financially feasible. The school teams simply have access to it if weather requires it. Del Conte (and previous ADs) didn't look at land use and hope it could go on campus but couldn't find a location. He simply got access to it by providing some rent money and / or the use of the school name because it wasn't financially feasible for a sport with basically no revenue.

And people were freaking out when we had a proposed facility 2 miles away from campus at Bryan Midtown much less the arrangement that would put it in Navasota.

Anyone want to open up a tennis club with teaching pros and indoor and outdoor courts in BCS or get Traditions, Miramont, or Pebble Creek to expand and build one? This is actually were the popularity of pickleball hurts tennis because less people (especially active olds) are playing tennis. Facilities are building pickle ball courts instead of improving tennis facilities.

Or, it just means that the arms race is over for non-revenue sports, and people with the best existing facilities will have a permanent advantage in the future.
